As the county seat, Vero Beach is the largest municipality and the commercial and cultural center of the county. Incorporated in 1910, with an estimated population within city limits today of more than 17,750, its residential neighborhoods and its trade and commerce buildings, its numerous golf courses, lush greenery and well maintained and productive citrus groves and farms, its undeveloped land and open space, and its miles of unspoiled beaches and ocean vistas characterize this community and keep it free from urban sprawl and congestion.
At the northern end of Indian River County, home to an estimated 14,500 people, the city of Sebastian is enjoyed by residents and visitors alike for its array of beach and inlet activities including surfing, fishing, swimming, diving and boating.
Indian River County and surrounding communities are well served by the highly rated school systems and medical care and treatment facilities established in both Vero Beach and Sebastian.
